Msn messenger is looking so cheap and tacky these days - well pretty much since they launched the light blue colour scheme.... which was about june last year i think!:(
Also, the UI is getting increasingly cluttered in my opinion, which is a shame as some of the earlier versions looked great! :thumb:

Well i have no probs with it, as it matchs my XP desktop.

I'm sure if you search the net you can find new skins etc.

Plus, its free! what more do you want for something that is free!

I downloaded "gaim" and tried it earlier.... I'm not sure how much I like it though. It's okay, but seemed to have some fundamental drawbacks, e.g. there was no indication on the contacts list as to who was blocked and who wasn't. Ive also tried Trillian in the past too, though that was just simply irritating. Can anybody suggest any other alternatives to MSN messenger?

You could always use the lighter version Windows Messenger? It should be in a directory in your "program files" directory.

It has less clutter and is generally faster :)

Thats so... 1998 ;)

To be honest, I find the telephone the best form of communication too (over distance anyway), although I do usually have MSN running so I can communicate quickly to a few people at once, which is handy when I'm working.

MSN Messenger is tacky - full stop.

There again, they all are, imo.

If I must, I use ICQ, always been alright in my book and less prone to viruses/spyware/adware/idiots.

Sometimes, I sound like a right cynical b*****d don't I? ;)

Hi

I am with you guys who think MSN is cheap and tacky, I can see why teenagers like it - instant commication for free and all that but I do worry about some weirdos out there. I like the phone too....much better form of communication and I can't see what the need is to have multiple conversations simultaneously, but perhaps that's just me being an old gimmer as we say in these Northern parts!!!
