Tabs in IE

I made the dumb mistake of clicking on a pop up to add tab ability to IE. The
problem is, they don't actually function properly. If you go to File ->New ->
Window, a new window will not open up, the new content simply replaces the
old content on the 'tab'. Sometimes a new tab appears for 2 seconds then
seems to take over the original tab and it's back down to one tab. This
happens even with new pages that are supposed to appear in new windows but
now overtake my current 'tab'.

Please help if anyone else knows how I can get rid of these tab(s)!

We're supposed to guess WHAT you installed? Was is the MSN Toolbar
(which adds tabs to IE) or some other program?

Hi Vanguard,

I remember some malware add-in (forgotten what its name was) that inserted
'fake' tabs (tabbed inline frames) to IE. More info would be helpful.

Regards.

Thank you all for responding. If I knew more information I would have given
it. There was a pop up that appeared while I was surfing IE with a navy
header, screenshot of IE tabs on the left and text on the right. It touted
tabs now available for IE. (It's very similar to the one I see all the time
now that says Malicious spyware is probably on my computer and do I want to
scan it using some great product or other.) When I clicked 'Next' on this pop
up, the tabs appeared and that was it. No download seemed to take place or
file name given.

I do not have the MSN toolbar.

Wrong. You did a download and installed malware. Clicking on next
probably did an install on-demand action (which you should disable in
IE's advanced options). You might also have AX downloads set to enable
instead of prompt in the Internet security zone which means any site
that wants to install an AX control can do so. Now you'll have to use
anti-malware programs to detect and eradicate the pest that you let into
your computer.

I figured I made a serious error. Thank you for your advice. I greatly
appreciate it and hope to eradicate this pest promptly. I will certainly be
more cognizant in the future (even if it is 3am).

Thanks again.
