Tab in dos

Still don't know what you're getting at. Even in Windows XP, the TAB key
cycles you through the contents of the directory you're in. I that the
function you're referring to? And it's not there in Vista?

Ect... Hel<tab> for get hello.exe

I take it you mean the function that would cycle through
folders names that were below the current folder open?
It still works fine here.
Of course it also only shows the names and does not actually do anything
once
you hit enter just like it did nothing in Win XP also.

Oh, ya..
silly me,
type something like
cd (tab) and it inserts the directory.
and will cycle through until you find the one you want
etc...
Still work here on my vista,
sorry I can't help ya

I think - but am not sure because of the very poor quality of the original
post - that the OP is asking how to make the tab key do autocompletion at
the command line. I honestly don't know if Vista's command prompt does
autocompletion (it does in *nix OSes and OS X).

The OP should use his/her Mad Skilz and search on Google for something like
"autocomplete Vista command prompt" or rephrase his/her question and supply
more information so people don't have to guess what s/he really wants.

Cheers,

Malke

Sorry, of course it isn't.

Does the TAB key work as expected in a text file? To tab through apps and
websites? If not, your keyboard is either broken or has been reprogrammed.

Aha,
It should not do that in a command (DOS) window.
Seems you have a program over-riding the function
of the key.
Do you have any programs installed that make single key strokes do things
like copy or paste or start a program?

Stop faffing about.

Open the Command Prompt, click on the top left icon and select Defaults.
Options tab > Edit Options > AutoComplete.

ss.

Already checked that.
Did you?
seems not.

You may want to try and change the layout and then change it back
just to make sure that is not it.

Ït is on...

I am sorry then.
I ran out of thoughts.
:(

And please don't think I was saying that post below to you.
I had checked that so I did not even try to tell you to try that.
That was directed at the non helper that must have thought
that would have made a difference but never actually tried it.
:)
