T-bird vs Windows Mail Download Speed

I have 2 gmail email accounts that I use with Windows mail. I have 5 gmail
email accounts that I use with Thunderbird. Thunderbird completes downloads
in under 10 seconds while Windows mail is 3 to 6 times much longer. Any
reason for discrepancy?
 
IMAP or POP accounts? You can speed up IMAP in Windows Mail
by not synchronizing seldom used mail folders.
 
Also, if messages are left on the server, the greater the number of the
messsages, the longer it will take to go through the list. That could be
different between the servers. The real test would be to run the two side
by side on the same account.
