Hi there,

I've been reading about authoritative en non-authoritative SYSVOL restores
in order to complete a disaster recovery scanario for the company.
I've found scenario's that just talk about restoring (from backup) to an
alternative location in order to perform authoritative restores (or to the
original location for non-auth restores) and there are scenario's that make
use of the BURFLAG registry setting.
It's not clear to me when to use the 'BURFLAG scenario's'.
Can someone please explain the difference between restoring with or without
using the burflag settings?

Regards,
BP

The process is described in the article below. Here is a quick overview:

Stop NTFRS on all DCs.
On 1 DC make the D4 entry and "prep" the Sysvol so it has the correct
polices and scripts.
On all other DCs in the domain make the D2 Entry.
Start NTFRS on all DCs.

The D4 entry means I am authoratative i.e. everything I have you need.
The D2 entry means everything I have is no good, I need to resource.

It is very important that you stop NTFRS on all DCs and do not miss any or
else you will have to go through the process again.

You would implement this if you have collisions or other issues that that
may take a long time to repair or if you needed to pre-Stage the Sysvol
directory on a machine before it is shipped to a remote location. Make sure
you understand the process fully before you implement it.
