Are there any SysTrayPlayer-like freeware applications that are simple in
the manner of STP, possibly use plug-ins, and are still under some kind of
development? Thanks much.

QCD player can be configured to look a lot like STP. The playlist is not as
powerful, but it has a quicktrack option (one-click song selection) and Ayla
skin is similar to STP, but looks much better.

I actually have QCD on my laptop already, and I love it. It's my primary
player. But sometimes I'm just in the mood for something quicker and
simpler, you know? SysTrayPlayer does this well, but I thought I'd check
to see if there are any similar programs worth checking out, especially if
they're still in development. (I kind of wish the STP minibar was
skinnable like the tray icon menu buttons are.) I welcome suggestions!

At http://www.netean.com/stp/ you can find SysTrayPlay Version 3 build
1069 which supports minibar skins.

I recommend 1by1, a small program and certainly not a resource hog. It
can also play cda, wav, flac, ogg etc. with free WinAmp plugins. You
can use the "compact view" if you like. It minimizes to a small icon
in the systray.

"Tired of creating and updating playlists? 1by1 is a very small sized
player which is not only small: It plays whole directories without a
playlist. Navigating through your tracks has never been so easy.
Full Resume Play (remembers last played track and position)
Explorer like file navigation
ACM (MP3) and mpglib (MP3/MP2) support
Winamp input plugin support
Audio dynamics and stereo enhancer
Directory searcher (plays whole drives)
Cue sheet support
Favorites"

I have 1by1, but never knew it could do this. Thanks much.

foobar2000 is very lightweight but very convenient to run from the
system bar. It runs playlists or directories - it has lots of options
but i just use it as a lightweight player. I do like the "volume
equaliser" function.
