Systray Icon

Had been using MSAntispy since it's launch and found it to be just fine, and
just "upgraded" to Defender. Antispy always showed an icon in the systray,
but this program doesn't. Does anyone know if it can and if not, why not?

Also, when AS finished a scan, there was always a report page, which I
liked, but that also seems to have disappeared...??

But does that mean Microsoft defender is not running in the background? Do I
have to physically activate it in order for it to scan and protect my
computer? What should I be looking for in the processes file?

Engel has posted the full list.

mpcmdrun does scans and initiates and monitors triggered updates.

msascui.exe is the User Interface that you see.

msmpeng.exe is the Windows defender service--this is running as a system
service and is providing real-time protection, and also analyzing files as
they go by during scans, as far as I can see by observatins. (i.e. don't take
this as gospel--its just my own observations--I could be off the mark in
various ways)

So--msmpeng is the important one, I think.

Thanks Engel & Bill. But I didn't see mpcmdrun running. Should I be
concerned? (The other two are.)

No--that one runs only during scans, or when a signature update has been
requested, but not yet completed.
