systems restore problem

I did a systems restore in regular mode, and when it was complete I had to

undo the restore because after the restore the dvd and the cd did not work,
so when I went to look for them at the DEVICES WITH REMOVABLE STORAGE list
they both were gone, so I then undid the restore, and they reappeared, why
did
this happen?
