I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro with Windows XP. I've been having trouble with it for a few months now and was considering on doing a System Recovery. I put the First disk in and held the "C" key down until it came up with the black screen. I push the F1 key , I think it was, so it would start. Then all of a sudden this black screen pops up and say "Wrong Machine" made of the letter "x". I've done a system recovery before on this computer but now it's not letting me do it at all. Is there anyone out there that can tell me what to do without sending me to someone else. I've been everywhere and I'm getting sick of the Toshiba support center. No one tells me whats going on. Does anyone have any ideas?

Brandon;
Messages like that usually mean you are using the recovery CD on a
computer not intended.
Have you replaced the motherboard or any other hardware?
Toshiba may be your only source of support.

Actually I'm using the same cd's I've had since I bought the thing. Have you ever delt with the computer saying "Starting Windows 98" before it try's the System Recovery?

No I haven't touched the insides of my computer at all. Sorry I didn't respond in the last post.

Brandon;
If you get the message "Starting Windows 98", it has passed the point
where it needs to boot from CD and is now booting from the hard drive.

Check your manual, are there different options for recovery?

Try rebooting to the Recovery CD.

A message like that is typical when the software is sensing that the
hardware is not correct. Make sure you don't have any PCMCIA cards plugged
in, unplug from the network, if you have one.

Did you happen to add memory? If so, go back to the original. Might want to
set the bios back to the default settings.

If none of that works, unfortunately your only source of help is the
manufacturer, since they're the only ones who know what triggers that
message.
