On switching on, Norton Internet Security reported that a file called
csrnvrt.exe resident in System32 was trying to reach the internet, blocked
it, and recommended that I always blocked it (which I have). This program
only appeared today.

Does this sound like a virus or similar, or a part of the Operating System?

Should I leave it or kill it?

Thanks

A Google search for csrnvrt.exe turns up nothing. This is usually a good
indication that it is some sort of malware. csrnvrt.exe is not an XP file.

Update your antivirus software and run a full system scan.

Do the same for whatever anti-spyware applications that you have.

Thanks wesley. It was a virus W32.IRCBot which came looking like an Adobe
article. I think it is sorted now, but I had to use Ctrl-Alt_del and then
shut the programme down before Norton could look at it and sort it out.

Glad you got rid of it. Keep your AV software up to date. ;-)
