system32 folder

the system32 folder appears whenver i log in or open internet explorer. I have looked around and found the problem on microsoft BUT i'm a little weary as it said i should have everything backed up etc. etc. and i really do not want to mess the computer up.
does anyone know of a simple jargon free way of fixing this problem without putting the comp at risk?

to Item No. 260. In the right column, click on "System32 Folder Opens
Upon Boot". Download this repair file and then run the repair.

BUT
i downloaded it and ran it and it said that the script couldn't repair the registry because they expected registry value was not found.
Is there anything else i could try?
