As I was investigating a slowdown in response time (Compaq Presario 6000,
WinXP Home) on this desktop, I noticed a copy of the System32 folder on the
desktop. Neither I nor the principal user knows how it got there. I
renamed the folder. This didn't seem to have any effect on anything. But
I'm not able to delete it because the files in it are either in use (which I
doubt) or otherwise protected.
I understand that the System32 folder can open on boot-up as a result of a
typographical error in the Registry, possibly caused by a virus or by
removing a virus. Virus scans of my system show no problems.
Has anyone else seen this? Any ideas about the cause or the cure?
