Each time I start up the PC I mysteriously get the
System32 folder displayed on the screen. Something is
opening it or trying yo alter something in it on startup
but for the life of me I can't find it. Neither can my
NortonAV, SpybotSD, Spy Sweeper, or enything else I've
tried to use to find it. I've even been through regedit
looking for anything that might be trying to access it.

I've heard others have had this problem before and that it
was the result of a past trojan infection. This may be
true as the laptop was loaned out once and can back with a
bunch of infections that I cleaned up. This is the only
remaining problem.

Any Ideas????

Thanks - Inky

there is an article somewhere in microsoft knowledge base about this. i
can't remember where but if you search you should find it.

Well, now that I've reviewed the MS knowledge base again I
found the entry on this and checked it out. Ther are no
nulls or missing entries in the registry so I'm still lost!

Also, someone recommended HijackThis as a tool to use but
the www.spywareinfo.com website and its associated
downloads is no longer on the web! It's gone.

The only other thing I found is a reference to "Golden
Palace Casino" that had some sort of worm associated with
it. I had to remove that program from the laptop with the
Spy Sweeper program and have recently found a program
called "zzb2.exe" left lying around and deleted it and all
referencs to it in the registry. Still no luck.

Any other ideas? Unfortunately this laptop from Compaq did
NOT come with a WinXP cd for reloading it or I would do
that as well. It only came preloaded.

Really desperate now. please help.
