system32 corrupt or missing

hi, today i turned on my comp to find that message, i find the help needed to fix this, and the windows xp crashed guide by charlie white
this was working up until the point of copying the fil
the exact file was the windows\system32\config\syste
i created the md tmp file/directory whatever it i
then type
copy C:\windows\system32\config\system C:\windows\tmp\system.ba
instead of the file copied message, i got "the file could not be copied" message which i assume isn't goo
so anyway, if anyone could help me through this, maybe i'm just doin something really stupid, anything even to put me back on course with the guide, it would be much appreciated
