Hi,

My system information folder is 10Gb. Can I delete the
files in the folder? How I can get this to be a
reasonable size folder?

Thanks for any help.

Mohan

OOps, didn't read the title.

System volume information contains system restore data, by default this is
12% of the drive. Do you have an 80GB drive ?

Paul

Hi Paul,

Thanks for the reply. I have 30 GB drive, with win xp
home edition, on a dell laptop.

By the way, I checked my other 2 win xp(home) computers
and their system volume information folders are empty.

We are talking about the System Volume Information Folder in the C:\
directory, aren't we ?

Can you actually see what files are in this folder ? Its normally hidden
unless you've made changes to you file/folder options and even then you
can't go into it to see whats there.

Whats telling you its 10GB ?

Paul

Yes, it is the same folder. I saw the size through Noron
Utilities first. Then I changed the folder options to see
this folder and it's guts. It has 2 folders in it -
_restore{B37680B2-BA0A-4E5... and catalog.wci
The _restore folder has a whole bunch of RP## (RP66 -
RP152) sub folders.

Can you please shine any lighton this.

Thanks

Mohan

Mohan;
System Volume Information is the System Restore Data.
Sometimes it gets corrupted and many things can happen including
excessive data and unable to restore.

Turn off/on System Restore to delete corrupted files:
Start/All Programs/Accessories/System Tools/System Restore.
Click System Restore Settings on left side.
Check "Turn off System Restore", click OK, follow prompts and reboot.
This deletes ALL Restore Points including corruption.
Then go back and turn on system Restore and create a Restore Point.
