I've just realized that my System Volume Information folder is 7 Gigs!
About 6 Gigs is a subfolder beginning with _restore. The folders that
are in there begin with RP (I'm assuming standing for Restore Point)
There are 55 of them dating back to Jan 5 2004. Now I KNOW I don't have
that many Restore Point dates available to me and I would never want to
restore back to a date that far in the past... a week at most 'maybe'
Does anyone know if it is safe to delete the folders that are older
than a week? I've been wondering why my free space has been going down
so quickly and I guess this is why. Any help is very much appreciated.
Thank you! N

Right click My Computer + select Properties. On the system restore tab you
can turn it off on some partitions. I only have it monitor my C partition.
Then under the Settings button let it only use about 500 MB. You can delete
all but the 1 newest restore point using disk cleanup.

That did it! In fact just resetting the amount of size available to
system restore removed all but the 3 most recent restore points.
Thank-you!! :-)

You may have had some crash that caused the logs of System restore to
become damaged. If it has got into trouble, it is probably sensible to
clear it out and let it start clean. System Restore. Check 'Disable
System Restore, and OK, reboot. Now have Folder Options - View set to
show Hidden files, and *not* Hide Protected mode ones and delete
everything in the System Volume Information folder on each drive

Start SR up again, and I suggest reviewing the settings for each drive.
There is not much point having it enabled on data drives, and on ones
with System or Programs I would reduce the space allotted if more than
say 1GB - I use 500MB, the minimum is 200 which will only handle maybe a
week of points. But the default of 12% of a drive seems too much for
its own good on modern large drives
