Greetings,
I have tried 2x to install a mouse driver update from Lenovo. After the
install, the following occur:
Run DLL as an APP has encountered a problem..
Explorer has encountered a problem...
Windows Genuine Advantage has encountered a problem...
When opening Task Manager nothing works to kill any Apps or Processes. Then
the Dr Watson Post Mortem Debugger has encountered a problem... pops up and I
need to open Task Manager again to get to Shutdown to restart in Safe Mode. I
have XP SP2 with all updates installed. While in Safe Mode after this I ran
LavaSoft and Spybot and they found spyware and malware This process also
totally wiped out AVG Free 7 to a reinstall. I scanned the file I downloaded
first and it checked out OK.
Any feedback greatly appreciated. Windows Firewall is active.

If the only thing you've done is installed the update and the problem
occurs, I'd suspect the updated driver.

Greetings Michael,
Thanks for the quick reply. I thought that too but one relies on the
IBM/Lenovo reputation first. I will drop them a line to get their thoughts
or response. In the interim, the current MS PS/2 driver suffices. Thanks
again.

The removal of the spy/malware may have damaged other files, have you
considered a "repair install"?

Greetings Greenie,
After rebooting from Safe Mode all seems to be working well now. I did
have a problem with the first repair install in that SP2 CD I do not have and
it asked for those files. However I pointed to K:\I386 on the XP install CD
and I think it worked. I do now have a restore point to fall back on. However
I could do the repair install just to be up to date. I have an SP2 CD on the
way from MS for future needs.
Thanks again.
PS. Every now and then something looks for the "A" floppy drive for a few
seconds. Any thoughts?

Here are some links on how to "Slipstream" SP2 to and earlier version of XP.
The RyanMV site is very useful as it will incorporate a lot of updates and
hot fixes into the new CD saving you having to install them via Windows
update.
