I only want active services to be in system tray. noty x'd out items which
are not used.
how do I not display disconnected items like messenger or LAN connections
Normally disable the system tray icon concerned from within the program.
Windows Messenger though will only display an icon if it is loaded and
running , so 'disconnected' is a little puzzling unless you mean you
signed out (which leaves it running).
In Control Panel - Network Connections you can r-click the connection
and uncheck the box to show a taskbar icon;
In Messenger you can take Tools - Options - Preferences and uncheck 'Run
WM when windows starts' and 'allow WM to run in the background'
Or if you want to see icons only when the item is active, right click in
that Taskbar, Properties, check 'Hide Inactive icons'. In its
Customise, for any icon, you can then select Always Hide (or Always
show) instead of the default 'Hide when inactive'
