My system loads an unbearable number of programs
automatically and it therefore takes nearly 5 full
minutes to get up and running. The system tray also
loads FULL of icons.

How do I prevent some of these programs from loading
automatically (how can I delete them from the "load
list", if there is such a thing) and reduce the number of
auto-loaded programs and icons in the system tray?

Thanks.

Hi Norm,

You can access the startup programs by going to "Start" Run and type
"msconfig"(no quotes) and then the "startup" tab. You can un-check the
programs you don't want to run at startup. Caution! You should leave your AV
and firewall running. Below, is a link that may help you with the names of
what is on the list, they are cryptic and difficult to understand without
help.

Hi Norm,

Check for an option to not having the icon load in the System Tray via the
program(s) in question.

Other options for removal:

Go to Start/Run and type in: msconfig. Go to the Startup Tab and uncheck
accordingly. Then run this script to remove the disabled items from the
registry.
