The icon for MS AntiSpyware is no longer appearing in my
system tray. This just started, I think after the last
update. I;ve checked my options and DO NOT have the hide
icon in system tray checked.

If I check the task manager I do not see the program listed
but then I'm not sure what the program name is. I
certainly do not see and msantispyware shown in the process
list.

My question is: Is spyware running in memory. I have the
enable on startup box checked.

Thanks for any help.

Hello Don,

try this,

Click on Start>configuration>software>MSAspyware
than Click on information, there you have a repair option and if you use
that the Icon should be back!

Thanks Tom, I'll try that.

I have the same issue. I tried the repair, and it worked
once or twice, but it is now back to the way it was. I.E.
No icon in the system tray, and no processes like
gcasDTserv.exe or gcasserv.exe running in the task
manager. Only when I open the app, do these processes
start running.

Uninstall MSAS, emty the folder, run a registry cleaner and do a new
install of MSAS, hope that wil work.

Thanks for your reply. I am hesitant to be mucking around
with the Registry. For one, I don't know much about, and
I also have not done anything to my computer since
installing MAS. For your info, here is a line from the
MAS error log:

429::ln 0:ActiveX component can't create
object::gcasServ:modMain:Main::06/07/2005 5:40:16
PM:XP:1.0.614

Don't know if this has anything to do with it. Regards,
Tom

disable the system prefetcher OR configure it to do boot
prefetching only (not application) and your disappearing
tray icons problem (which is a commonly known bug in xp)
will suddenly come to an end

HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session
Manager\Memory Management\PrefetchParameters

0 = disabled
1 = prefetch applications only
2 = prefetch boot processes only
3 = prefetch both apps and boot processes

i've set mine for boot prefetching only (2)

Hello Tom,

if you download CCleaner, a nice program to clean the whole PC, you can
download it here:
http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner.html

So let CCleaner do the job for you, also if you install MSAS again stop
programs that check the registry like a antivirus or Spybot.

Good luck >*< TOM >*<

I think I repliesd too soon. I was not thinking when I
read your solution. I assumed you meant the start button
on the task bar. (Click on
Start>configuration>software>MSAspyware) However when I
click on it I do not have configuration as an option. I'm
running with the "classic" view. Is that my problem.

Start, control panel, add or remove programs, Microsoft Antispyware, change,
update.

This will fix the issue, but it may be temporary.
