System Tray icon

Having loaded MSAS Beta1 and setting the 3 x Real Time
protection options (and also running a scan), I wonder
why I don't see any icon in the system tray area?
Shouldn't there be one, at least to act as a confidence
measure that the real time protection is active?
I do note that once I've run a scan then an icon does
appear in my system tray, but doesn't reappear following
a reboot/restart. Not sure if this is an issue or not,
but it would be nice to have a confidence booster that
the system is functioning?

Check settings, options (or is it Options, settings)--general--to see
whether you've turned off the tray icon intentionally. I do that on
corporate desktop setups. The behavior you describe is what happens when
that setting is made.

You might also try reversing that setting (however it is set, just
uncheck/check it) and restarting Microsoft Antispyware, and then re-set it
to your preferred setting, and restart again. If that fails, I'd do an
update install--control panel, add or remove programs, Microsoft
Antispyware, change, update.

Right click the Taskbar and choose Properties. Uncheck "Hide inactive
icons".

My icon is gone but I DO NOT have them hidden in the
program OR the taskbar. I'm gonna do the untick-tick
routine and I'll get back...

After checking the taskbar AND program "hide icon"
features, I should have had the systray icon. I went
to "Add/Remove Programs" and hit the "change" button,
MSAS reinstalled (I suppose). VOILA! I have icon. I
restart: I have icon. Restart again. NO ICON. Before
my systray icon vanished for good (yesterday), it seemed
to show itself on every other reboot. I know the prog is
running but the icon still wishes to play hide-n-seek.
Blech.

This is a long-standing bug in XP. To get all the System Notification Icons
to re-appear, do a Start->Log Off, and log back in again. Do not do a
Restart, as this will lose the icons again.
