System Tray Icon Problem

I have a number of icons that reside in the system tray, and all except
two behave themselves perfectly.

However, the Microsoft Outlook and the Retrospect Express HD icons are
recalcitrant. When I boot up the system in the mornings, sometimes they
appear, sometimes they don't. Mostly they do, but perhaps once or twice
a week they don't. Even when they don't appear in the system tray, both
programs work correctly - Outlook prompts me for appointments and other
reminders etc and Retrospect backs up on schedule. They do always
appear in the Task Manager Processes list, of course, not in Applications.

It's not a big deal, but does anyone have any idea why this should happen?
TIA
Peter

It's a known quirk. My usual recommendation is to logoff user & logon again.

Do a search in this group authored by Sharon F, MS-MVP. You can also do a Google group search.

My volume control icon is not loading anymore. I have already checked to see
that the box is checked to allow it to load through the control panel. If I
uncheck that button, click apply and then check it again and apply the icon
comes up on my taskbar. But it does not load again when Windows is restarted.
Any ideas?

I've finally discovered the solution to all these Windows taskbar
problems. Switch to Ubuntu Linux - all the problems magically
disappear, along with all the other windows problems.

What finally triggered the change was Vista on my new laptop - the
worst excuse for an operating system I have ever encountered in 50
years of computing. I could live with the quirks of WinXP but Vista
was the last straw. Goodbye Bill!
