Ron...

Everytime I try to install any software or even if I get an update
from Microsoft... I lose many of my icon's from the system tray.

If I restore to an earlier point... I get them back

What can I do?

Thanks...

They default to Always Hide.

Click on the (chevron) << looking button in the Taskbar notification area to
see what's hidden.

Right click the Taskbar | Properties | Taskbar tab | Customize button |
Click on the Behavior item to show the V | Click the V to display; Hide when
inactive, Always hide and Always show | Select one

If that is not the problem...

Try disabling the SSDP Discovery Service and the Universal Plug and Play
Device Host service.

Just out of curiosity, is that before or after a system restart ?

And this happens when you install ANY software ?

Yes any software - even the latest patch from Microsoft that reboots
itself....

Yes after the reboot - If I do a restore... they all come back... and no -
they are not hidden...

Thanks...

OK, OK, I was just asking so the problem was clear. System tray icons can
be lost if Explorer crashes/is killed, then restarts itself.

And you have tried the suggestions from Wes ?
