Hi,

I've just implemented Group Policy over the weekend.

One of the requirements in our Accounts Department is that they need to be
able to change the system time. I've changed the setting in Security
Settings - Local Policies of the Default Domain GP to allow this but it does
not appear to be applying itself to the Windows XP machines.

Any ideas?

Thanks
James. MCP

James,

I don't have a solution to your problem, but I would like to raise my hand
and make sure you have asked yourself if this requirement is really
neccesary. Since the Kerberos protocol uses time stamps (tickets), it is
crucial for your environment that the system time on clients and servers are
synchronized. If you allow clients to change time themselves, you will
probably also experience problems with your roaming profiles, since
timestamps determine whether to use the locally cached profile or download
from the server.

just a friendly advice...

Hi,

Does anyone else know of any other implications to changing the client
system time? It is returned to its original setting after use since it is
only done in the accounting department to post invoices to previous dates in
Sage (which grabs the Date from the local system).

Also, I have found the solution to this and I believe it was just a matter
of forcing the Group Policy update using gpupdate. I have found a further
problem and that is the Date time "re-syncronise" after an indeterminate
length of time. Would this be due to the default Group Policy
syncronisation???

Cheers

James.
