There have been one other message, but this is the one that shows up every
time after I unchecked 'automatic restart';
IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
What does this mean?
Memory-related? As in 'manufacturer installed Vista, then did not add
sufficient memory to run anything -besides- that'?
Or something else, hopefully something I can fix without going into the guts
of the machine?

With hope for help and thanks in advance

Is that in the form of a Blue screen? like a STOP 0x0000000A error? If so,
there's a good explanation here:
http://technet2.microsoft.com/windo...4ea6-4068-9f55-40801292ec6d1033.mspx?mfr=true
This page refers to Windows 2003 but it applies equally to Windows Vista.

Basically it means a kernel mode thread made an improper memroy access. It's
almost always a problem with a device driver. Hopefully the error message
will mention a specific driver file eg if Foobar.SYS, you need to go to the
maker of the Foobar device and get an updated device driver for Windows.

If you can tell us more about what appears in the error, we may be able to
give extra pointers.

Hi,

Since that update does not update the file, it would be unlikely to help.
What you need is an updated set of driver files for the problematic
hardware, and that should come from Intel.
