System State and Full System Backup over Network?

Hi:

I read that System State Backup does not work over a network; that is must
be backed up and restored
via a local device.
If that is true, then does that mean System State can only be backed up
via harddisk, tape, CD, or DVD?

I have a need to do a full System backup and File backup of multiple
servers,
but I don't want to get a tape drive for each server. I want to backup
entire systems 10+GB to a very large server. Can this be done?

I have a solution that you can take but requires some time....
Go to each machine and map a drive to the large server that you want
to hold all the backups....go into MS Backup and select system state
backup and select backup media and back it up to file browsing to the
large server and just name it according to the computer's name...After
you do this with each system you can go over to the large server and
backup all those files to tape.....
