System Start Up

One of our computers is in an endless loop at start up. The message that
flashes so fast you can't read it (it took me several times around to get it
down) is "Registry Hive Failure", the system cannot load the hive (file), and
something about a system root\system 32 file being corrupt, absent or not
writable.

Any ideas on how we can fix this? We've already tried F8 and starting up
with the last known configuration.

Thanks!

Hi Sherrie,

Try this:
Start -> Run-> type sfc /scannow

You need to have your Windows CD.

Hi, and thanks for responding so quickly. I guess I should have noted that
we do not have any system discs, as they are company issued computers. We
have called our "Help Desk", but they haven't gotten back to us yet. They
told us to try the F8 thing, but it didn't work. We have been getting
e-mails today with virus' in them, so I'm thinking that this computer got
nailed by one of them. Just a guess . . .

An email won't give you a virus unless you open the attachment.

Yes, I know, but there are several employees who use this particular computer
(it's not mine, luckily), who probably opened up some. Can't prove that, of
course. I just wondered if anyone there knew what might have caused this and
how to fix it.

Still waiting for our help desk to respond . . .

If you don't have a WinXP CD I don't know what you can do but wait. See
your boss and push the problem up the line.

You need more direct help than we can offer here, I suspect.

This might or might not be the result of a virus.

If your company has technical support--that's the route you need to take.

Microsoft does provide support for Windows users who have problems as a
result of a virus, or virus removal.

In the U.S. or Canada, dial 1-866-pcsafety for free help with virus-related
issues, or problems related to security patches.

Elsewhere, call the local Microsoft office--equivalent help is available
worldwide, but the call isn't always free.

I can fix that.....
restore your system to before all this update issue started last week...
then boot up.....BTW restore from the safemode administrator state
THEN LEAVE PC ON....dont reboot or it will start all over again....
GET WITH IT MICROSOFT......
