System slow

My system is slower than molasses. When I click print
to print something, the printer icon appears in the
taskbar right away but the printer takes a minute or more
to start. When I try to shut the computer down the
shutdown aborts. Rebooting seldom helps. I installed an
anti-spyware program and got rid of loads of spyware and
for a while that helped but now the problem came back and
running the spyware program doesn't seem to help. Does
anybody know what's going on?

Thanks, but I did all of that and the computer still
runs slow and hangs at shutdown.

Tell us more, what does your system have? is it a new system or an old one?
P4 or Celeron 333? How much memory?

OK, now how many icons do you have in your system tray (the right side next
to the clock) more than 2 and you are slowing your machine down. Turn off
the icons for unnecessary things like media players and AOL, Musicmatch,
Roxio, etc. Goto the properties of each app in the sytem tray and un tick
"show in tray".
Too many thing running at one time will slow down any pc.

If you have a higher powered pc (500 to 2 G processor), have you scanned for
viruses and spyware?

How much memory do you have? less than 256, you need more.

Just some thoughts.
