I just got my Dad's old computer that has XP. Everything
seems to work except after being connected to the internet
for a little while (dial-up) I get a System Shutdown
message. It says:

This system is shutting down. The shutdown initiated by
NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM.

Windows must restart because the Remote Procedure Call
(RPC)service terminated unexpectedly.

You likely have the blaster virus. See:
http://www.microsoft.com/security/incident/blast.asp
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.blaster.worm.removal.tool.html
And you must keep your virus program updated with vius definitions. You
must also install windows critical updates.
