When I try to install the program, an error message
flashes up (it disappears to quickley to read) and my
computer shuts down and restarts. The program doesn't get
installed and the same happens every time I try to repeat
it.

Any suggestions?

Your system is set to restart upon OS crashes. This is the default setting.

The error message that is displayed fleetingly may be recorded in the event
logs.

Right-click My computer, choose Manage.
Left click the PLUS sign in front of Event Viewer.

Look in the System event log (left click on it and scroll up and down in the
right pane) for the time of the crash. There will be either two or three
source "eventlog" entries for every boot or reboot of the machine. Look in
their vicinity for a record recording the crash error message.

You can double-click on the record in the right pane, and cut and paste the
description of the event and send it in another message in this thread.

The information at the top--in particular source and event ID are also
important--you'll have to add those by hand, I think.

If the event didn't make it to the event log, the other way to get a good
look at the blue screen is to change the settings so that it doesn't restart
on crashes:

Properties of My Computer, Advanced tab. Startup and Recovery, hit Settings.
Under System failure, uncheck "Automatically restart."

You can then read and write down generally about the first three lines of
the blue-screen error message--looking particularly for the name of a file
or driver which might be involved.

Yours is the first post of this kind I've seen and I'm having some trouble
imagining what the issue would be--Microsoft Antispyware expands the
downloaded file and then calls the Windows Installer to begin the actual
installation process. Running chkdsk on your drive might not be a bad idea.
