system settings change

I have sony digital camera that i have been using with my
IBM T40 laptop for several months. the last two times I
have connected the usb cable to the laptop I get a message
that windows has installed a new device and requires a
reboot. Why would it start doing this after I have been
using it for a few months. Thanks

Similar behavior has been seen here. Don't turn on the camera until the
connection is made, and always use the same USB plug on the PC, if there
are several available.
