I have a pentium III 1 gig machine. Till 2wks ago was
running win98. Quick and fairly reliable. Hard drive
died. Installed a new larger one (20gig) and win2000.
Did all the online updates including SP4. System is
substantially slower.
Simple things like right clicking on a file name to get
its properties or delete it can take 15-20 secs.
Sometimes it is quicker. In my programs like Eurora,
things which happened instantaneously as I clicked, like
opening an email message, can now take 2-4 secs.
Installing new programs which used to take a minute or
two can now take 10 or more - for example the simple step
like "generating desk top icons" can hang for 5 min.
Is SP4 buggy?
I run command.com antiviurs and have the current program
and signatures and have done a virus scan. All clean.
Any ideas appreciated.
