PLease tell me the difference in "backing up you computer"-files, programs
etc... and SYSTEM RESTORE? They seem to me to accomplish the same thing or
do they?
NOT BACKING UP!
System restore restores your system back to a time when it was ok. If you
restore after you have installed a proggy or saved a lot of work, then the
proggy or work will have not been installed or created as you are BACK to a
previous point in your computers history.
System restore does not always restore correctly (wait untill it corrupts
your ntdll.dll, then you will be having fun), you are better off using ghost
to create an image of your system partition to a free partition which you
can restore to if things go wrong. Restoring this way is backing up
everything at that moment to another partition but should you need to
restore that image file then your computer will be put back to that point in
time that the image was taken. Image files can corrupt too, but are more
reliable than system restore.
BACKING UP!
Backing up is saving stuff from your computer to disc/cd, tape or another
computer / online server incase your computer decides to run away, not play
or die. You can then put the stuff back into your computer again should it
come back, start to play again or is fixed. You can even use the backed up
data on another computer. If you are going to clean install xp, then you
should back up your favourites and documents to cd / removable storage so
you can put then back again when your done installing xp.
