No matter what I do, I can't get System Restore to work. I've followed
everyone's advice and it didn't help. I even did a complete reinstallation
of XP Home. It show's the restore points but when I go to restore, it goes
through all the motions and then I get a message that 'no changes have been
made'. What next?

All whose advice? Any true expert with XP will tell you
that "System Restore" is a piece of junk programming whose
restore points are affected by everything from disk de-
fragmenting to virus scans. Turn it off and save yourself
the aggravation. If you have XP Home Edition then NT
Backup is not installed by default but like other tools
can be found on your XP HE disk. Put the disk in the drive
and when the auto-play opens the selections screen
choose "perform additional tasks" then "scan this CD" and
then look for valueadd\msft\ntbackup and double click the
two little computers icon and NT Backup will be installed
in your start\all programs\accessories\system tools. Once
you create a backup with NT Backup the program will always
be there for you and is unaffected by any cleaning or
optimizing programs. You cannot write it to CD though. For
that you must get a third party program. NT Backup does
not have disk spanning capabilities. Keep smiling.

Jerry,

Not sure what machine you have but have you tried the manufacturers web site
for updates or Windows update it's self. I have an HP and there was a
problem with my machine and system restore so HP have created an update for
it!
