system restore..?

can someone please explain system restore to me, i understand it restores
your computer to a previous state but how many restore points does it save,
can u choose 1, how much space does this take up, is it reliable and will it
restore everything on your pc up untill that point?. help me understand
please, thank you.
 
thank you jupiter......(cool name). But can i select or set my own restore
point and if my system becomes infected, will restoring eradicate the virus?
 
You can choose any of the available Restore Points.
It may or may not eradicate the virus.
You should have an anti virus program to get rid of viruses.
If you know the virus name, search for the virus and a resolution
should be displayed as well:

You determine how many restore points your computer saves by telling it
how much hard drive space to allow. To do this right click on my
computer icon and select properties. Then click on system restore tab.
Highlight drive letter and select settings. Adjust the slidebar to
increase/decrease amount of hard drive space to use. The more space you
aloow the more system restore points you will have.

Yes you can set a restore point or just let it do it's own thing and set
points on program and driver installations. On the point of Viruses, you
may find that if you become infected that Restore will "lock" the affected
key in memory. So you may have to turn off Restore then do a Virus scan.
