Have had a new HP Media Centre computer for about 2
weeks. Wanted to restore to a couple of days ago - says
I cannot restoreto that point, try another. I did - same
error message. This is the 3rd computer I have had where
system restore does not work. Does it ever work?

Hi

One or more of the System Restore files could have been corrupted - try
turning SR off/on - but I'm afraid that you will lose any existing
checkpoints:

Right click My Computer, select Properties and then the System Restore tab.
Enable 'Turn off System Restore on all drives' and reboot your PC. After
that 1st reboot go back into SR and disable 'Turn off System Restore on all
drives' and reboot your PC again. After that 2nd reboot you should have one
new SR checkpoint.

Since your message seemed helpful and I hope this helped
I have a different one for system restore. I do not have
it anymore! THe properties does not show but I get a
error message as follows:
THE PROCEDURE ENTRY POINT REMOTE ASSISTANCE
PREPARESYSTEMRESTORE COULD NOT BE LOCATED IN THE DYNAMIC
LINK LIBRARY WINSTA.DLL.
Suggestions? Also I am looking for real information on
thrid party software such as system mechinic and norton's
system works both pro versions. If you recommed either of
them please say why if not please tell me why not and
please then recommd a third party software that could
help in my keeping my pc healthy. Thanks

Try restoring the registry files using the recovery console from the xp
cd. Do a search for Q307545 on the Microsoft knowledgebase.
