windows XP will not let me restore to previous months,
just the current month Sept. Any solutions???

Nope. Older system restore points drop off as new ones are created. You
might be able to extend that a bit by allocating more drive space to the
restore points. But it seems that system restore is best suited as a quick
fix for things you've currently botched.
