System Restore

When I try to run System Restore, it takes about 5 minutes for the window to
come up. Is this normal?

What are you running? Without some specs on your system it is hard to say.
Five minutes would be a little long on my box, but even on a very fast box
it takes a minute or so.

I have a brand new Quad-Core processor computer with 4Gb of RAM, so everything should be instant (I would think). It takes about five minutes for System Restore to come up after clicking it. Sometimes I wonder if it hadn't registered my click so I try again and get a message that it's already running. It's VERY frustrating...

I'm running Windows Vista. I think this makes a difference because I didn't once experience this in XP.

For a start, why do you want System Restore?
If you have a problem requiring SR, maybe the problems are related.

Mick, your logic is faulty.

I have the exact same complaint - SR takes ages to come up when
requested. Sometime i'd like to check when the last restore point was
set before fiddling with stuff.

Vista stinks in this respect. SP1 fixed a lot of other stuff, but SR is
still lacking.

On Vista the more restore points you have the longer it takes for System
Restore to start. Open System Restore and check the box "Choose a different
restore point" and then check show "Restore Points older than 5 Days". This
will show all restore points for your computer. If you have many restore
points you might try deleting all except the last one by opening
Accessories\System Tools\Disk Cleanup. Let it do it's thing, then click on
"More Options". You will see System Restore and Shadow copies. Click "Clean
Up". This will delete all except the last restore point. If you want to
keep more than the last Restore Point, you will have to live with the slow
start up.
