Does the amount of space assigned to System Restore affects the footprint of
a Operating System ghosted image?

Mark

Do anybody vote on the web interface.

They didn't the last time I looked?

The amount of space *used* by System Restore will affect the size of
the ghosted image. This may or may not be the same as the amount of
spaced assigned to System Restore.

For example, if you have used Disk Cleanup and selected the option to
delete all but the most recent System Restore point then the archive
will be using only a part of the allocated space, and as more restore
points are added in future the size will increase until it reaches the
maximum.

Hi,

As Ron pointed out, the space used to hold restore point is dynamic, meaning
it will change depending on the amount and size of the restore points being
stored.

Restore points are stored in the System Volume Information (SVI) folder on
the root of each drive. I just performed a test on what happens to the SVI
folder when restore points are removed using the Disk Cleanup feature - More
options - System Restore - Cleanup, to remove all but the most recent
restore point.

Before running disk cleanup.
System Volume Information folder properties:
Size: 271 mb
Size on disk: 153 mb
Contains: 625 files 41 folders

After running disk cleanup.
System Volume Information folder properties:
Size: 20.7 mb
Size on disk: 9.65 mb
Contains: 32 files 5 folders

How to using Disk Clean-up to remove restore points:

Yes, they do. 146 people, as of today, have marked my answer to their
question as 'helpful'. I find about 8 percent of people who post their
Original question with the web interface, (and therefore have the ability to
mark as helpful) do indeed use the web interface 'rating system'. It's
really about the same percentage that it is for eligible voters who vote for
their choice as president :/

Mark

The situation must have changed since I investigated the web interface.
That was quite some time ago.
