Is there any limit to the number of restore points you can save?

If I want to save as many restore points as possible, what is the optimal
amount of free space on my hard drive that I should have.
 
System restore will only utilize 12% (a configurable maximum) of your disk
space (that is the disk on which Windows is installed). So, it depends on
the capacity of your hard drive.

System Restore is a useful short-term tool for reversing immediate
mistakes. It is not a backup tool and - in the words of the late great
MVP Alex Nichol - will tend to get itself "in a twist" if you allocate
much more than 1.5MB to it.

If you want to take and keep "system snapshots" get an imaging/backup
program like Acronis True Image. Take "snapshots" and save them to an
external hard drive.

I agree with Malke. My view is that System Restore is best used for
situations such as "oops. I need to get back to the way I was 10
minutes ago" or perhaps "last Tuesday, just before I installed Super
Crappola version 3".

Using System Restore to go back further than a week or perhaps 10 days
at the very most will most often cause more problems than it ever
fixes.
