Hi

System Restore doesn't monitor data files, so those files should be
somewhere on your system. Have you tried searching your system by extension
for the files?

Yes I have searched the world over every which way I can think of with no
luck in finding any of my files.

I did that - it tells me no changes were made.
Does it make any diff that this is XP Home?

the setting back but no docs. - at this point I think the documents are gone

Please don't shout. Not only is it rude, but it makes your article
MUCH harder to read and diminishes the chance you'll get a helpful
response.

Now, I question your "of course". In general a computer with a CD-
burning drive can read a disc that was written but not finalized. Are
you *certain* that the discs were actually written successfully? Are
you trying to read them with a CD-ROM drive, or with a drive that can
burn CDs? (CD-ROM drives are rate these days, but I'm trying to
eliminate all possibilities.)

Do you have some third-party burning software, or are you relying on
the crippled Roxio software that comes with Windows? Try third-party
burner software and see if it can recognize any data on these discs.
One no-cost possibility is at <http://www.cdburnerxp.se/>.
