My System Restore is also not working, I get no error message, it simply
tells me the system cannot be restored and no changes have been made. I
wonder if the problem is at all common...

Hi Bert:
I did that awhile ago but it didn't fix the problem with SR not maintaining
restore points longer than a week. SR is set only on the C Drive which has
plenty of free space > 100 GB. I turned the D Drive (Recovery Partition) SR
monitoring off. I followed your directions found on System Restore web page
and have gone through all the suggestions except reducing the size of SR but
first thought I would post the error record in event viewer to see if that
would lead to anything
Thanks

Thanks for posting the additional information.

The event log you posted was created on 6/24/2006. The 'errorlog.ini'
file that is located on Volume 'HarddiskVolume2' which is not normally
the system drive. It is normally 'HarddiskVolume1'.
Could it be that this error was created before you disabled monitoring
of the recovery partition?

What is the problem with SR at this point? Please post any error
messages received.

Thanks for writing back
I stopped monitoring the recovery partition over a month ago when I noticed
that SR didn't maintain a set point very long. I have been monitoring how
long SR keeps a restore set point. 0n 6/29 I found all the set points
deleted even though I haven't installed or updated anything. This
appartently happened on 6/24, 6/25, and 6/26 (all error logs are the same).
SR doesn't keep a set point very long, maybe a week or two at the most.
