My email client [Outlook 2002] has suddenly began errors
when sending and receiving. Nothing but errors, unknown
reason. I tried a system restore. Everything goes fine
until the system reboots. I get the message: System
Restore Failed. What preceded all of this was a Nortan
clean up of my system [internet cache, temp files, etc,
nothing that Nortan doesn't pick on it's own] and
defragment of the hard drive. I then rebooted and tried
to use my Outlook. Errors resulted. I did the Detect and
Repair with Outlook. Pop up said that setup was
successful. Tried to use Outlook again. Errors sending
and receiving. Then tried a system restore. Restore
failed. Has anyone else encountered this? Recommendations?

System Restore is not terribly robust. It is useful mainly to expressly
establish a restore point immediately before an operation that could
jeopardize the registry. Unfortunately, one operation that can put your
system at risk--defragmentation--also wipes out your restore points.

I would reinstall Outlook, first uninstalling it. Just make sure you have
your product key handy, and make sure the number you have actually is the
key and not one of various similar looking numbers.
