System Restore

When I try to do a System Restore, which has worked in
the past, I get a message that the restore did not work.
In the event log it says: A restoration to "System
Checkpoint" restore point failed. No changes have been
made to the system.
Can anyone help me? Thanks.

Can you do a new restore point and then add some software
(anything...) and then roll back to the restore point?

If not sounds like the service has a corruption. This

Whilst it is for a different error, the sfc /scannow and
the re-install tips are valid for you.
