system restore

Hi
I would like to restore my system to an earlier date but
when i try any earlier dated or system check points i get
the messege that system restore was incomplete and no
changes was done. I need to do system restore and it is
unsuccessful. Could you please tell me what i should do?
My operating system is winxp home edition.

Go to Control Panel→Performance and
Click to expand...
Maintenance→Administrative Tools→Event Viewer. This event
viewer displays event Logs for your XP Home Ed System.
Right click any errors showing the 'sr' under Source
column→to view the properties of the event and what you
can do about it.

CORRECTION i.e. I used an arrow symbol from 'character

map' that did not POST as intended.
Go to Control Panel, Performance and
Maintenance, Administrative Tools, Event Viewer. This
event

If the either of the other 2 solutions do not work, try
defragging your drive. It worked for me.
 
I did all this there are different kinds of errors but
there is no error showing sr under source column. what
should i do now??

I have done everything that i was instructed sofar. i
also did defragging disk and after that tried to restore
my system. didnt work. please help me. what should i do
next??
