System Restore will not work. I have tried using several different restore
points, and I always get the same thing. It goes through all the steps, even
restarting my computer, but then it has a message saying that it did not
restore anything because of an "uspecified error".
Anyone have any suggetions?
Thanks in advance,
Mandi

If you are running Norton, disable it before doing a SR.
Also, if you still have probs, try doing SR in Safe Mode.

To get to Safe Mode, tap/tap.tap..... F8 at startup> it will give to a list
of things to do> use UP and DOWN arrows to go to Safe Mode> Hit Enter>follow
prompts> do your SR from in there(with norton disabled)

I have the same problem. I have an hp compaq 6720 s with windows vista home
premium pre-installed, and i could never do the restoring to a previous
point. All the points i select fail. I obtain the answer : the system
couldn´t be restored due to an unspecified problem. I go to the solutions and
errors report of windows and i see there the error 0x80070005. I have run the
restoring system utility as administrator and i have Norton internet
security. Can someone help?
Thanks in advance.

Norton is likely causing your problem.

Replace Norton with the free AVG http://free.grisoft.com/ or Avast
http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html, and Windows Firewall and Windows
Defender. Disabling Norton is not enough. You need to completely uninstall
it. If it doesn't solve the problem, get rid of Norton anyway. Norton is
known to cause many problems in Vista and they don’t always appear
immediately.

Download and run the Norton Removal Tool.

It's called "360" because Symantec's goal is complete ownership of your
computer, and with even less communication about what it's trying to do or
ways to configure it than ever before (which would only interfere with its
goal.) That, along with Symantec's famous technical support, makes Norton
360 a disaster that I would only install on Granny's computer if she was
going to disinherit me.

Thank you for your answer. I am going to quit my norton internet security (
it was a free trial for 60 days and it remains about 10 days), and i will try
avg grisoft free edition. Then I will try to do a restoring to a previous
point.

Regards.
