System restore/taskbar problem

Can anyone help - no system restore point actually works. I understand from
reading other messages how to enable and then disable system restore.
However at the moment, although system restore is not working, it works to
the extent that my taskbar is properly populated after using it; if I don't
reboot using system restore every time, I don't get icons like "safely remove
hardware" in my taskbar. Would appreciate any assistance!

Hi. Thanks for your quick response and help. I have enabled/disabled SR, and
hope it will work in future. However, despite twice downloading and
executing the taskbar repair programme, although it works instantly, it's
back to normal (i.e. programme icons missing, esp. "safely remove hardware")
on reboot. I tried both "programme icons missing" and "restore xp default" in
kellys-korner. Any further suggestions?

Just noticed this thread,

I asked about the speaker icon in particular keeping disappearing from my
'notification area' on 21/06 but got no replies. On friday, most of the
other icons had gone from this area too. On this occasion they came back
after I unticked the 'show icons not currently in use' box, closed it, and
then opened it and ticked the box again. This has not worked for the
speaker icon in the past though.

I have 'taskbar activate' installed, which cured an earlier problem of the
bar getting regularly stuck up or down.

Had more or less given up on the speaker icon problem and use Real Player
instead, but this is only a partial solution because other users can still
access the speaker icon and turn the master volume down, so that one has to
go into control panel to turn it back up...

I have assumed this to be a multi user glitch. Hope you get it sussed.

Hi Steve
try the link kindly provided by Rick Rogers in this group - it may repair
your taskbar (although it hasn't done mine)
best wishes
