System Restore Takes Forever to Open

When I click System Restore it takes nearly 40 seconds top open.
Sometimes longer than that. When my patients runs out and I clisk it
again I get a message telling me it's already open. Where, I have no idea.

Anyone else having this problem?

It seems to be the way it works. I wish I knew why, but I don't.

Maintain your patience.

Hello James,
Actually yes, I have experienced this before. You open System Restore
and you think it didn't open so you try it again and it says something
like: System Restore is already running, closing current session.
Maybe it just takes awhile to load as it has to read all the current
and past restore points...

It takes so long that I have concluded it is analyzing the hard drive,
analyzing the shadow drive (or whatever it's called), and verifying
your moral worthiness. Especially the last...

Patience... I need to work that.

Yes.

To amplify - the 40 seconds you mention is not out of line, in my
experience. At least two in this thread recommended patience. Now you
know why :-)

Wait until, after a major crash that seemed to destroy your system, you
try booting into "repair this installation". I'm not sure if I got the
name right, but I do remember maybe 40 minutes with no visible sign of
progress, or even activity, followed by a successful boot. That was
painful. I still shudder five or six months later, just remembering it
so I could write this post.

I have no such thing.

Just checked mine... 2 seconds.

Months ago it sometimes took a long time. I can't remember how long
ago that was... but it probably was last year sometime.

Well, I'm just about to go out to lunch (no jokes, please!), but I
guess I should check later to see if mine still takes a long time to
start up.

In either case, you are forcing me to correct an assumption :-)

I should mention that I have adjusted the size of the space that
SR/VSS uses to only 7 gigs, which leaves me with usually no more than
7 or 8 auto restore points.
