system restore still not working

I believe I have tried every fix there is to try and repair System Restore
and yesterday after again disabling it and restarting then re-enabling it
after a period of time I was able to restore to a point on the same day but
today cannot restore to that same restore point. Is there any way to fix
System Restore short of a complete reinstall?
 
Try going to run,type:cmd
At the curser type:Sfc /Scannow then press enter key,
When the graph starts,install xp cd,exit the info page.
When the graph is thru remove cd,then type:CHKDSK C: /R
Agree to restart,then type:EXIT restart computer.

Can u let me know if u fix this problem as i seem to have
a similar fault, I have tried everthing but got nowhere
I have come to the conclusion that system restore utility
is a waste of space !!
