system restore says cannot restore no changes made

i have tried several restore points and it gives me the same message that
system restore cannot restore to try a different restore point. my grandson
did something to my computer and now when ever i try to play a game it locks
up and is not responding and i have restarted and shut down several times so
i thought if i did a system restore it would fix my problem but that is not
working any help please
